We've seen posts and received calls from customers reporting higher-than-usual bills for service, so we wanted to take time to share why. Several events may be affecting your recent SCV Water bill. Changes in Usage due to Weather. We are dealing with warmer weather than we have seen in the last few years, and you may be watering outside more than you did the same time last year. Meter Changeouts. We are currently in the process of changing out meters as we move toward near-real time reads. Depending on the changeout date and the closing read date for the bill cycle, you may see higher-than-normal consumption charges due to a lag between those dates and when the bill is generated. While this will lead to a higher bill right after changeout, the following month should reflect lower-than-normal consumption charges. SmartWorks Implementation. As we begin to implement a new system and head toward near real-time meter reads, we have made changes to the number of reading days in a billing period. Meters were previously read and billed between 27-33 days for a regular month, and that number has changed to 28-37 days. This range is a general guideline. Rest assured that you are still only being charged for water used during that cycle, and all active services are billed 12x/year. Rate Increase. As of July 1, 2024, both Fixed (service) charges and the Variable Water Charge (per CCF) increased per SCV Water's approved rate structure. Customers were notified in their bills prior to the change. Some customers may have seen bills in August that were for water used in portions of June and July, billed at two different rates. These will be billed at the 2024-25 rate moving forward.
